Skuja Braden

Above the Below / Sanctum of Flow is a site-integrated ceramic installation created for the communal washrooms of Kistefos’ visitor centre.

The exhibition continued the artists’ exploration of porcelain as a medium historically associated with refinement, domesticity, and the applied arts, while using it to challenge the cultural expectations and hierarchies attached to these traditions.

Strange Bargain was the Milan presentation of Skuja Braden’s first solo exhibition with kaufmann repetto, presented across the gallery’s New York and Milan venues. Open Closet was Skuja Braden’s first exhibition in Istanbul, presented at Root Karaköy in 2023 and curated by Pınar Goodstone. Developed in solidarity with Istanbul’s LGBTQ+ community, the exhibition brought together works from the artists’ 2022 Latvian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale alongside new porcelain sculptures.

Selling Water by the River was Skuja Braden’s exhibition for the Latvian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, presented from April 23 to November 27, 2022. Curated by Solvita Krese and Andra Silapētere, the exhibition brought together more than 300 porcelain objects, including newly commissioned works alongside pieces created over the previous two decades.

Samsāra was a major exhibition by Skuja Braden at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga, presented from March 14 to September 27, 2020. Marking 21 years since Ingūna Skuja and Melissa D. Braden began working together, the exhibition brought together more than 200 porcelain sculptures, paintings, drawings, and objects from museum and private collections, alongside works created especially for the exhibition.
