Skuja Braden Receive the Baltic Award
On 13th of May, Skuja Braden received the Baltic Award in the Art category at the first Baltic Awards ceremony, held at the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga.
Clay/Craft/Concept: Contemporary ceramics ancient histories, Malta Society of Arts, Valletta, Malta, 2024
CLAY / CRAFT / CONCEPT explored the boundaries between sculpture and the beautifully crafted functional object, bringing together a large and eclectic group of artists working with clay. Presented by the Malta Society of Arts, the exhibition investigated different approaches to clay across time, from prehistoric objects to contemporary practice, creating a dialogue between functional, decorative, and sculptural forms.
Queer Art: From Canvas to Club, and the Spaces Between
Written by Gemma Rolls-Bentley, Queer Art: From Canvas to Club, and the Spaces Between explores the diverse ways queer artists have challenged conventions, reshaped visual culture, and created new spaces for identity, expression, and community. Spanning different mediums, generations, and cultural contexts, the book brings together artists whose practices reflect the evolving relationship between queer experience and contemporary art.

The exhibition continued the artists’ exploration of porcelain as a medium historically associated with refinement, domesticity, and the applied arts, while using it to challenge the cultural expectations and hierarchies attached to these traditions.
Strange Bargain, kaufmann repetto gallery, Milan, Italy, 2023
Strange Bargain was the Milan presentation of Skuja Braden’s first solo exhibition with kaufmann repetto, presented across the gallery’s New York and Milan venues. The two exhibitions formed distinct yet interconnected projects, bringing together works that explore the intersections of commerce, power, identity, sexuality, and authorship.

Pardon My Body was part of Skuja Braden’s first solo exhibition with kaufmann repetto, presented across the gallery’s New York and Milan venues. The exhibition brought together two distinct yet interconnected projects, introducing the work of the Latvian-American collaborative duo to the gallery.
Open Closet, Root Karakoy, Istanbul, Turkey, 2023
Open Closet was Skuja Braden’s first exhibition in Istanbul, presented at Root Karaköy in 2023 and curated by Pınar Goodstone. Developed in solidarity with Istanbul’s LGBTQ+ community, the exhibition brought together works from the artists’ 2022 Latvian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale alongside new porcelain sculptures.
Selling Water By The River, the Latvian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, 2022
Selling Water by the River was Skuja Braden’s exhibition for the Latvian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, presented from April 23 to November 27, 2022. Curated by Solvita Krese and Andra Silapētere, the exhibition brought together more than 300 porcelain objects, including newly commissioned works alongside pieces created over the previous two decades.
Samsara, Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga, Latvia, 2020
Samsāra was a major exhibition by Skuja Braden at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga, presented from March 14 to September 27, 2020. Marking 21 years since Ingūna Skuja and Melissa D. Braden began working together, the exhibition brought together more than 200 porcelain sculptures, paintings, drawings, and objects from museum and private collections, alongside works created especially for the exhibition.
