Above the Below / Sanctum of Flow (2026) is a site-integrated ceramic installation created for the communal washrooms of Kistefos’ visitor centre.

At its centre is Above the Below, an anti-monument in which a porcelain splash rises from a dense stoneware base on a marble platform above the sinks. Experienced from below, the work transforms the everyday act of washing one’s hands into an encounter with the sculpture. A circular mirror positioned above completes the well-like structure, reflecting visitors back into the work as they stand beneath it.

Surrounding the central installation, Sanctum of Flow unfolds through thirteen oval wall works integrated into the restroom stalls. Made from clay, glaze and glass, the works evoke both bodily and architectural thresholds: openings, passages and points of release. Pipes, ropes, zippers, anatomical fragments and fluid forms come together to create a landscape that is at once intimate, bodily and architectural.

Through Above the Below / Sanctum of Flow, Skuja Braden transform a functional communal space into an immersive environment that blurs the boundaries between body, architecture and sculpture.
