The seventh Guangzhou Triennial, SYMPHONY OF ALL THE CHANGES, brought together 59 artists and artist collectives from China and around the world at the Guangdong Museum of Art in Canton. Curated by Wang Shaoqiang together with Wu Hongliang, Philip Dodd, Thomas Eller, and Jiang Jun, the exhibition explored connection, transformation, and the changing conditions of contemporary art.
Marking the end of an important chapter in the history of the Guangdong Museum of Art ahead of its relocation to the Bai E Tan Greater Bay Art Centre, the Triennial reflected on a period of profound global and social change. Its title draws on ancient Chinese philosophical and literary texts, considering change not simply as a condition of the present, but as a fundamental process through which the world and its relationships continuously evolve.
The exhibition was structured across four curatorial sections, bringing together diverse approaches to questions of social margins, slowness, technology, embodiment, and transformation. Alongside historical archival material, the Triennial featured more than a dozen newly commissioned works.
Among the commissioned works was Apple of My Eye by Skuja Braden, the Latvia/USA artist duo. The work was presented as part of an international exhibition that connected local histories and perspectives with broader conversations in contemporary art.
