In the Name of Desire explored the diversity of sexuality and sensuality in Baltic visual art, bringing together historical and contemporary practices across painting, graphic art, photography, sculpture, installation, and video.
The exhibition critically examined the representation of sexuality and the objectification of women’s bodies in art, placing greater emphasis on female experience and feminist perspectives. It also presented the first broad survey of Baltic queer art at the Latvian National Museum of Art, bringing together works that address sexuality, self-identity, desire, and LGBTQ+ experience.
Skuja Braden were among the artists invited to participate. Their contribution formed part of the exhibition’s exploration of contemporary queer and feminist perspectives, alongside works by artists from Latvia and across the Baltic region.
Curated by Igor Gubenko and Elita Ansone, the exhibition brought together works from the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art, other institutions, and private collections, creating a dialogue between twentieth-century art and contemporary practices.
